New rules for 2010.  In open dairy, open beef, open sheep, open swine and open goat shows, three animals are permitted in each class with a limit of 10 animals per department per farm.  Open rabbits and open poultry:  Three animals per class per exhibitor with a limit of 30 rabbits and poultry exhibits per farm.  A BVD (bovine viral diarrhea) test will be required of all cattle.

Junior Market Livestock Auction
 
Drew Holombo raised the grand champion steer which sold to Pat’s Foods for 2.95 per pound. Karena LaTendresse sold her reserve
champion to Miner’s State Bank for $2.75 per pound. Mike Lahti, State Representative, purchased the grand champion lamb from Macy
 
Holombo for a record price of $7.95 per pound and Econo Foods purchased Dan Saari's lamb for 6.70 per
 
pound. Econo Food set a record price by purchasing Aylee Dessellier’s grand champion hog for $7.50 per pound and Pat’s Foods
purchased the reserve hog for $3.05 per pound from Tyler Monette
 
Other exhibitors and buyers are as follow:
Amanda Mattila – steer to Superior National Bank and Trust
Warren Niemi – steer to John Jilbert
Usimaki Logging purchased a steer from Katie Mattila, a lamb from Julia Pietala, and hogs raised by Jacob Colling and Vaughn Hobmeier. Econo Foods also bought a lamb from Jacob Tuomi and a hog from Karl Szyszkoski. Jim’s Foodmart bought lambs from Hannah Tuomi and Ashlynn Monette. Pat’s Foods purchased Matthew Tuomi’s lamb. Erickson’s Feed and Seed purchased Nick Pietala’s lamb. DP Construction purchased Connor Colling’s hog. Watershed Pools purchased Kirsten Daavettila’s hog. Harrington Ridge Coal and Stove bought Elaina Hobmeier’s hog. Roger Wood bought Grace Laitala’s hog, Laura Bulleit purchased Morgan Colling’s hog, Michelle Danielson and Brian Donohue bought Genny Gierke’s hog, Tess Ahlborn and Nancy Reed bought Mike Gierke’s hog, Superior National Bank bought the hog raised by Justin Mattila and Stacey Mattila sold her hog to Rainbow Packing. The buyers spend $30,244 in this year’s auction involving 26 youth exhibitors. Butch Patient donated his time to conduct the auction again this year.
